Burned-in subtitles?

In most cases, burned-in subtitles should be avoided. Here are a few exceptions:

  • Trailers for foreign language titles - we require trailers for foreign language titles to have burned-in English subtitles.
  • Blurred/distorted audio - if you have some clips in your video with blurred or distorted audio (commonly seen with documentaries), it's acceptable to have burned-in subtitles for the inaudible dialogues. Just make sure to exclude these lines from the separate caption file.
  • Mixed language titles - if your video has only a few clips in foreign languages (most parts are in English), it's recommended to have burned-in English subtitles for these parts. Just make sure to exclude these lines from the separate English subtitle file.
